On Thursday, April 27th, we awarded twelve nursing scholarships at a breakfast hosted by Freedom Village Brandywine. These scholarships, established by numerous generous individuals in our community allow more students to graduate with a nursing degree by helping alleviate some of the financial burden associated with obtaining a degree. Since 2001, the foundation has awarded more than $249,000 in nursing scholarships to area students.
Eligibility requires attendance at either West Chester University’s School of Nursing, Immaculata University’s Division of Nursing, or the Chester County Intermediate Unit’s Practical Nursing Program. Although students in those programs come from throughout the region, our purpose is to encourage more students to enter the nursing field, but also to encourage those in these local programs to stay in our area.

Cardiac Rehab Scholarships: Jaclyn Carney (also received the Coatesville Athletic Association Scholarship), Jennifer Carr, Anthony Filippini (also received the Doris K. Cumber Memorial Award and Harvey Award), and Samantha Polowczuk, West Chester University Students.
Martha and Duane Bohlayer Nursing Scholarship: Valerie McKeever, CCIU Practical Nursing Program
Gunard Berry Carlson Award and Marie Rooney Nursing Scholarship: Amber Martinez, Immaculata University
Ethel G. Charlton Nursing Award: Colleen Ramos, West Chester University
Carolyn Branson Sullivan Scholarship: Jennifer Carr, West Chester University
James L. and Miquette M. Cox Awards: Ahblah Abed, Immaculata University, Joanne Daris, Immaculata University, Devin Cunningham (also received the Henrietta Potter Hankin Scholarship), Immaculata University, Danielle Celotto, Immaculata University, and Jessica Chromiak, West Chester University.
