The Coatesville Area School District (CASD) has over 700 underserved preschoolers, by far more than any other district in Chester County.
A higher percentage of CASD teens report feeling depressed most days than all other areas of Chester County.
With funding and support, the Brandywine Health Foundation launched Coatesville Youth Initiative Program in 2009 an incubated the CYI program for 5 years, allowing them to grow and strengthen. In January 2014, the CYI incorporated as an independent organization.
More than half of CASD children are on free or reduced lunch, the highest % of any school district in the County, and 2x the percent of the county on average.
Since 2001, the Brandywine Health Foundation has awarded young people over $300,000 in college and nursing school scholarships.
