Harry Lewis Jr. Scholarship Award
The Brandywine Health Foundation’s board of directors created the Harry Lewis Jr. Scholarship in 2011, in honor of Harry Lewis, Jr, past board chairman. We are proud to give young people the opportunity to receive this life changing scholarship to support their dream of post-secondary education. Every year, one high school senior in the Coatesville Area School District is selected to receive $5,000 each year for up to four years of her/his tuition and fees. She/he must be actively involved in the Coatesville Youth Initiative, demonstrate a commitment to improving the quality of life in the greater Coatesville community, and achieve a certain grade point average in high school. Alene McDermott Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Alene McDermott Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established to provide scholarships to graduating high school students from Coatesville Area High School. This scholarship was established in February 2011 in loving memory of Alene McDermott, a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend who lost her battle with cancer September 21, 2010. Support from her family and friends, as well as Alene’s passion for singing and playing guitar, allowed her to extend her life against immeasurable odds. After her passing, Alene’s family and countless friends felt compelled to continue her legacy by providing an opportunity for young people to express themselves through music and art. It is the hope of all who loved Alene that her optimistic spirit and musical inspiration will be perpetuated through awarding the Alene McDermott Memorial Scholarship to college bound students who wish to embark on a career in music or art.
Eastburn Community Service Award
The Eastburn Community Service Award, established in 2016, is presented each year at the foundation’s annual Garden Party in memory of Jane and Al Eastburn, both of whom served the Coatesville area as non-profit leaders with distinction. The Eastburn Community Service Award is awarded to an individual who has and/or still gives back to the Coatesville community, making a positive difference with their time, energy, expertise. While philanthropic support is an added benefit, it is not the most significant factor. Community members are invited and encouraged to nominate a deserving Chester County resident to receive this prestigious award that comes with a $2,500 grant designated to a non-profit in the Coatesville area by the honoree.
