The Brandywine Health Foundation’s board of directors created the Harry Lewis Jr. Scholarship in 2011, in honor of Harry Lewis, Jr, the foundation’s board chairman from 2011-2013.
Every year, one high school senior in the Coatesville Area School District is selected to receive $20,000 for four years of her/his college tuition and fees. S/he must be actively involved in the Coatesville Youth Initiative, demonstrate a commitment to improving the quality of life in the greater Coatesville community, and achieve a certain grade point average in high school.
We are proud to give young people the opportunity to receive this life changing scholarship to support their dream of post-secondary education and we are proud that this meaningful scholarship exists because of those of you who have made an ongoing commitment to the foundation and Coatesville’s youth.
- In February of 2012, more than 250 area residents attended theHarry Lewis Jr. Scholarship fundraising event, with guest speaker Coatesville native Diana Robinson Lewis, Harry’s sister-in-law, who recently retired as a Detroit TV news anchor. This unique event netted more than $15,000 to fund the first foundation scholarship.
- Two years later, hundreds of donors generously helped to endow this scholarship through the Campaign for Coatesville’s Kids. Your commitment to our youth is enormously impactful and greatly appreciated.
